With Andy Burton already having wrapped up the BTRDA Gold Star Championship on the previous round, the Quinton Stages, he was able to give the Peugeot Cosworth a proper send off on his local event by clinching his 10th victory on the Woodpecker Rally.
Local crews always provide a bit of entertainment, plus normally a surprise. This year was no exception with Joe Price throwing his Voodoo Escort MkII around his back garden, entertaining the crowd. The surprise came in the form of Ludlow youngster Dominic Scott who took 2nd overall in the 1400 category – at just 18 years old, he’s certainly one to watch for the future.
The Woodpecker Rally is the penultimate round of the BTRDA Rally Series and it seemed that most of the regulars made an appearance, with one of the best entries of the year – it seemed only Hugh Hunter was missing from the top lineup after an engine meltdown on the Plains Rally back in May.
The championship culminates on the 8th October in the seaside town of Llandudno. Crews with tackle the infamous tarmac Great Orme stage, which the worlds best drivers will traverse later in November as part of Britains round of the World Rally Championship.
